Brickyard 400

Post by RockinDeano on Fri Jul 25, 2008 5:11 am

This is the second most important race of the year.
Daytona is obviously number one, but SD Gary, Prog and others, place your bets here.

I want to pick the 48 again but won't, although I see a top 5 or 10 finish for them.

I see Tony or Gordon winning. I hope and pray the 18 wrecks on the first lap!

PS- I don't see the 17 doing anything here like progfucker aid last week.

I'll take Gordon, of course, -though I wouldn't mind seeing Tony win, either,,

two pricks in the hand against the field,,,,,,, Laughing

I really, really hope that everyone is catching up to the 18, as it seems they might be..

though I fear he's unstoppable right now.

For some reason, him being the driver with the most wins in a season ever just doesn't sit right,,,

so I guess I'd be happy with anyone other than, right now.... lol

I'll go with Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart, and Jimmie Johnson as my main picks...

and Elliott Sadler and Brian Vickers as my dark horses.

Good call on Sadler huh guys? Qualified 6th today. I bet he leads alot of the race on Sunday, probably after getting only 2 tires on a pit stop.

Oh and how about my boy Marcos Ambrose? Great qualifying effort for JTG-Daugherty's first foray into Cup racing. Expect big things from this Aussie.

I LOVE Ambrose! I'm really glad he's in.
I hate to say it, but based on what I saw the last couple of days, the rest of the field is chasing the 48. And Sadler is DEFINITELY a possibility. But of course, even though, I didn't pick the 17, I'll be rooting for him, and be very surprised if he's not in the running for the win.
Even though my guy has usually done well here, I don't really care for this race. It's not as bad as New Hampshire or California, but close.
Oh well, as long as I have the scanner, and my guy runs well, I'm happy.
Bring it on!

That race was the worst I've seen, ever, and I've seen hundreds of races since I started watching in 1992.

UGH. What a clusterfuck. It was like watching some dude shave his legs for 4 hours, or like playing strip poker with a horde of Wigglers.

Safety was the factor Prog, and I agree it was terrible.

I am satisfied that rainbow boy didn't win. Cool

Yeah I understand the safety deal, especially with Montoya, Kenseth, etc. randomly exploding tires like they were driving through a minefield...

But the thing is, why keep throwing cautions when the crew chiefs KNOW that the tires would begin to give out after about 15 laps of racing? Today wasn't a race at all, and I'm severely disappointed.

Just let 'em race and have the guys come in when they're close to the tire window. I should write NASCAR and Goodyear a letter or some shit.

I'm raging over here. That was the worst tire I've seen in years, and Goodyear's had enough R&D and time to develop a quality one.... I feel for the 43 drivers that had to put up with the tire today, and the 250,000 fans that had to sit through this colossal handjob.

Not that I would ever pay to see a race there anyway, but I am SO GLAD I didn't pay to sit there and watch that! What a joke. I probably defend Nascar and sponsors more than I should, but trying to make that race look good is like putting lipstick on a pig!

How much do Brickyard tickets run?

I do know that visibility there is very mediocre..

Yes, the visibility does suck!
I have no idea, but as a rule of thumb, Cup tickets are normally $100+. (Although the best seats in the house at Martinsville are $77-and in my file cabinet right now! And the visibility from these seats is so good you could "spot" from there!)

I was kind of considering a Martinsville trip this fall, it's one of the closer tracks to me.

Next year I'm planning on going to at least 5 races for sure. Some combination of Michigan, Martinsville, Richmond, maybe Chicagoland, and an outside chance of some Talladega.

Well, I have Killer season tickets at Richmond and Martinsville that I can't always use. And I can probably hook you up for the other places. Right now, I know someone who's trying to sell their camping spot and race tickets for Michigan this fall. Great people with a great package. In fact, her son is one of Kenseth's tire changers. I think they've had these tickets like 25 years.
I THINK I've got the Martinsville fall tickets sold. But you're never sure until you have the cash. I had someone back out on them this spring. Luckily, I found someone else to buy them.
That list you have would be a great mix. The only one I haven't been to is Talladega. But I'm not a big restrictor plate fan. Richmond DEFINITELY. I think it's our favorite track. The last race there was the first one I've missed in three years. But it's hard to go cross country and pay for a rental car and hotel everytime.

Not this fall. Actually, I don't get there too often. But my seats are so damned good, I refuse to give them up! The track has a postcard with a picture of the track on it. The picture was taken from the suite I sit right on top of! So I just go when I can, and sell them the rest of the time.

Been there several times myself Gary. I sit right between Martinsville and Concord.

I remember first going to Martinsville. I was use to the track in Mich., when I lived in Detroit. Well you can imagine my thoughts, but what awesome racing.

T if you ever get the chance to go to Martinsville, do it. BTW, Martinsville is a small town, and for economic reasons getting smaller, but it has some of the best people on the face of the earth there!

You can't get much more different than Michigan and Martinsville! lol. It is a great town though.

My seats are dead center, turn one and two, on top of the suites. Row 2 (row 1 is wheelchairs), seats 1-4. I think I bought the first seats when they built this section.
